The Gospel today is taken from St Luke's, which speaks of being ready for whatever comes. We can apply this idea to our lives. A student must be ready for the examinations especially during the exams' week right now, otherwise flunked and failed. A teacher must be ready to answer questions of students whether in the class or outside the class. Fr. Linus' driver is bound to be available at any time, once he calls him up, "Sr, I am going to Christ the King Parish," he should reply, "yes Fr. I am available now. "A priest must be ready for the annointing of the sick at any time whether at daylight or midnight.
However, the context of the Gospel of the idea must have referred to Jesus' return, Parousia, the Second coming of Jesus. Some of them at that time in St. Luke's community might have thought that Jesus would come soon, thus, being ready for it is so natural and spontaneous. In addition, I think, this also can be applied to the end of our life when we go back home in new Jerusalem. Are you ready for it?
The instances mentioned above, because the said persons are present for the Mass.
