献主节

今天教会庆祝献主节，过去这称为圣母取洁，因为按肋未纪的规定，产妇第四十天应行取洁礼（12：1-4）。但是，希腊原文的名称却是：Hypapante，--Encounter，与主相遇。西默盎在圣殿中与主相遇。这是礼仪的主要的讯息。梵二会议后，这庆日称为献主节，表明是基督的庆日，而不是梵二前所称的是圣母的庆日。
正如希腊原文的名称所指出的一样，今天的路加福音给我们描述了西默盎以及女先知亚纳与主相遇的故事；礼仪经文也如此，邀请我们如同他/她们一样，“to meet Christ.” 今天的领圣体后经这样说：
Lord，you fulfilled the hope of Simeon，who did not die until he had been privileged to welcome the Messiah. May this communiton perfect you grace in us and prepare us to meet Chirst when he comes to bring us into everlasting life, for he is Lord for ever and ever.
